In the beginning, Freeboat will need all the help that it can get.  Because of this, current roles are volunteer positions with room and board provided while onboard.  We plan on cooking gourmet meals, so if you're a foodie, this could be a good fit. 

Why you might consider volunteering:

If you're a Captain and make your living by doing deliveries, or skippering vessels for private parties, volunteering will be like advertising for you!  We'll promote you like nobody's business as you'll be the hero for the time that you're helping out. If you're a videographer, or editor, your business will also be promoted.  It's an opportunity to display your unique skills and personality and we hope you will find opportunities in abundance (and probably will) for your contributions.  It might be the most enjoyable way to advertise ever invented! 

As we get started, we must limit our crew on board to those with skills that can help the project take lift.  However, if this isn't you, you can still JOIN THE RANKS.  Even just reaching out to us to let us know that you want to be a part of it makes you an instant Guppy.  

 Help document the journey, capture the highs and lows, and help tell the story of Freeboat.

This role is ideal for someone with real-world experience shooting video and a strong interest in documentary-style storytelling. Experience with editing is important — we’re looking for someone who can help shape the narrative, not just capture footage. Comfort working in dynamic environments, adapting quickly, and finding meaningful moments in real time will be key.  You’ll be part of daily life onboard, so flexibility, teamwork, and a willingness to contribute beyond filming are essential.

We’re looking for an experienced captain who values adventure, mentorship, and passing seamanship forward. Our first major passages will be sailing Yani across the Bay of Biscay in August/September 2026 and from Canary Islands to the Caribbean in November/December 2026 — the maiden Freeboat voyage.  We'll be filming, so of course, you must be ok w/ being on camera.
